Cushy Loves edible "Love Hearts"

It dosen't have to be Valentines day to bake hand made Love Heart Cookies. So much fun decorating and eating them or giving them as Gifts to Loved ones.
Traditionally the Heart has long been used as symbol to refer to the spiritual, emotional and in the past also intellectual core of a human being. As the Heart was once widely believed to be the the ruler of your soul, the word Heart continues to be used poetically and stylized depictions of Hearts are extremely prevalent symbols representing "True Love".

A simple Love Heart ice cube in a cup of Strawberry Milk Shake looks so sweet. Or the most stylish bar of Chocolate with a cut out Love Heart can make the most amorous of gifts. Alternatively "the big deal", a multi tiered Frosted Sugary Pink Love Heart Cake ....... !

The Cushy Team are so in love with Macaroons that we have put together all our favourite Macaroon Pictures for you to enjoy and make your taste buds tingle. Did you know . . . ? The earliest recorded macaroon recipes are for the almond meringue variety similar to amaretti, with a crisp crust and a softer interior. They were made from egg whites and almond paste. Mrs Beeton's Book of Household Management gives a recipe for a macaroon of this kind.

The name of the cookie comes from an Italian word meaning paste, maccarone. While origins are uncertain, some culinary historians claim that that macaroons can be traced to an Italian Monastery. The monks came to France in 1533, joined by the pastry chefs of Catherine de Medici, wife of King Henri II. Later, two Benedictine nuns, Sister Marguerite and Sister Marie-Elisabeth, came to Nancy seeking asylum during the French Revolution. The two women paid for their housing by baking and selling macaroon cookies, and thus became known as the "Macaroon Sisters." Recipes for macaroons (also spelled "mackaroon," "maccaroon" and "mackaroom") appear in recipe books at least as early as 1725 (Robert Smith's Court Cookery, or the Complete English Cook).

Italian Jews later adopted the cookie because it has no flour or leavening (macaroons are leavened by egg whites) and can be enjoyed during the eight-day observation of Passover. It was introduced to other European Jews and became popular as a year-round sweet. Over time, coconut, was added to the ground almonds and, in certain recipes, replaced them. Potato starch is also sometimes included in the recipe, to give the macaroons more body.

Macaroons are also known as "congolais" in France or "carajitos" in Spain. India, has its own variety of macaroon made with cashews and egg whites, so too has Turkey, a cookie called Acibadem Kurabivesi made with bitter Almonds.

When you think of Macaroons you think of Laduree, they are one of the finest purveyors of exceptional Macaroons which are simply to die for! The Macaroons come in the most gorgeous colours and adorable boxes, in fact the packaging is so exquisite when given, one almost feels like one has received the "Crown Jewels" fit for a Princess.

Something about Macaroons and Boudoir ................ maybe it's the Meringue like crystal frills along the edge of the Macaroon or simply the prettiest pastel colours that remind us, either way, they are the "Sweetest" and most beautiful ornamental of cookies on the planet!
